James Croft Announces Full-Time Ministry
Olustee, FL (PRWEB) October 4, 2006 -- Two thousand years ago on the banks of the Sea of Galilee, four fishermen made a decision that would change their lives forever. Unsure of the future but certain of the path they were to take, Peter, Andrew, James and John gave up their families, jobs and way of life to follow after Jesus as the first of the 12 disciples. As the Bible records in Luke 5:11: “…they forsook all, and followed Him.”
On Wednesday, September 27, 2006, 3’10” tall evangelist James Croft of Olustee, Florida, announced that he was stepping out on faith as a full-time evangelist. At his home church, First Baptist Church of Lake Butler, Florida, Croft announced that he was resigning from a 17-year career as director of recycling for New River Solid Waste Association and relying solely on God for his livelihood.
“On Sunday, October 15, I go under the full-time employment of God,” he told the congregation, citing his first official day off the payroll of NRSWA.
Since 1994, after surrendering to the call of the ministry, Croft has been preaching revivals and services for churches around the southeastern United States. He traveled to Ghana, West Africa for three consecutive years, beginning in 2002, conducting crusades that saw over 900 receiving Christ as savior. His ministry, the James Croft Evangelistic Association, built a youth center in the country, where a local evangelist serves as a ministry coordinator for the JCEA.
Most recently, Croft launched the monthly broadcast ministry “Walking with the Giant,” which focuses on ministry updates, reports from Ghana, sermon excerpts and interviews with a variety of guests working to spread the Gospel. Past guests have included Dr. Sterling Huston, chairman of the Internet Evangelism Coalition for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, U.S. Army Chaplain (Maj.) Keith Kilgore, currently serving in Afghanistan, and Junior Combs and Southern Joy, 2006 winners of the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
Despite his past accomplishments and current works in the ministry, Croft told the congregation in Lake Butler that his decision was difficult, especially with limited preaching engagements on his schedule.
“Logically, this is not the move to make,” he said, comparing the decision to Peter’s steps across the raging sea toward Christ standing on the same waters he called him from as a fisherman, “but God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts. When God starts speaking to you, you have to quit doubting.”
